Keke Palmer

          Keke Palmer has been actively involved in youth empowerment, anti-bullying initiatives, and supporting underrepresented communities throughout her career.

Youth Empowerment & Mentorship

• Saving Our Daughters / Saving Our Cinderellas: Palmer co-founded Saving Our Cinderellas, a core program within the organization Saving Our Daughters. The program focuses on adolescent BIPOC girls, using the arts, mentorship, and leadership development to build confidence and combat low self-esteem. As part of her involvement, she has invited underprivileged youth to Broadway performances and mentored students.

• Boys & Girls Clubs of America: She has participated in their Cool To Be Smart program, speaking directly to children about the importance of education and learning.

• UCLA Artist-In-Residence: In 2026, Palmer began serving as a mentor for UCLA students in the School of Theater, Film and Television, distributing student work through her platform, KeyTV Network.

Anti-Bullying & Social Causes

• Anti-Bullying Campaigns: Beginning around 2010, Palmer became a key representative for anti-bullying initiatives through Saving Our Daughters and collaborations with the YWCA USA.

• Social Activism & Civil Rights: She is an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and took part in the 2020 George Floyd protests in Hollywood. She has also supported organizations focused on LGBTQ+ advocacy, including attending and speaking at events for the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

       Lauren Keyana Palmer was born in Harvey, Illinois, and was raised in nearby Robbins, Illinois. She grew up in a Catholic household.Her parents, Sharon and Lawrence “Larry” Palmer, who met in drama school, had both worked as professional actors before settling into full-time jobs. Her father, who is a Catholic deacon, works for a polyurethane company. Her mother is a high school teacher who works with autistic children.

The nickname “Keke” is not a shortening of “Keyana”: according to Palmer, her name came about because her older sister, Loreal, had an imaginary friend named Keke before she was born. In an interview with Glamour in 2022, Palmer said she prefers to go by Lauren and said she would like to be called by her given name “more than anything”. Palmer first sang in a church and performed at a stage show at a Chicago tourist destination. In 2002, she auditioned for a stage production of The Lion King at age nine.
